It is all around us

Posted On: August 28, 2010 by Lamar Wilson

I just finished reading the check-in log for Daniel Maupins. He is down 42 pounds on his journey to become thin. I am so happy for him.
I also started thinking how motivated I am to push harder, because of HIS individual efforts.

This past week has been great for me. I have achieved some landmark goals, witnessed my daughter accept Jesus, and have begun hashing out the new vision for "Wes and the Fat Guy" with Wes and my partner Lafe.

What i realized this week is that motivation is all around us. You can find it in small feats of courage. You can see it in the will power of others. You can find motivation in others long suffering, their perseverance. You can find motivation in animal behavior. You can find motivation everywhere if you look through "right-attitude" glasses.

My daughter has always talked about her love for Jesus Christ but she was afraid of being baptized. But on Sunday she went up to announce her faith in Jesus despite her fears of "drowning". Seeing this made me happy as a father but also inspired me to have enough courage to try some of the other ideas I have had for this series. Seeing her small courageous feat helped me to gain more courage.

Sometimes I, like many of us, get down on our selves and self motivation is out of the question. But I have found that when you can't motivate yourself find motivation from other things and other people. Daniel, Kurt, Cj and the many other people who have joined the WATFG movement, have motivated me to keep blogging, to keep editing and producing shows, and to continue fighting the good fight of weight loss.

I also realize that by me becoming motivated, I motivate others, and the cycle continues. Don't let the cycle end with you. When you are motivated by someone, pay it forward. A good friend of mine always says "if we encourage half as much as we discourage, imagine what kind of world this would be".
